Lehigh’s undergraduate and graduate students were treated to a rare opportunity recently as they sat across the virtual table from Vasyl Myroshnychenko, Ambassador of Ukraine to Australia, who was ready to answer a multitude of questions from nearly 80 student attendees.
Along with a growth in representatives this year, the program has also grown to include two new NGOs.
Moments after arriving on campus, 25 first year students dove into the “global waters” as they began Lehigh’s three-day Global PreLUsion Program.
Less than 24 hours later, they were sitting across the table with the second-most senior diplomat in the German Consulate in New York City.
Vasyl Volodymyrovych Myroshnychenko, the Ukrainian Ambassador to Australia, met with Lehigh students over Zoom on Sept. 7 to speak about the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia.
The awards will give them the opportunity to enhance their educational and professional experience through overseas study and research.
Lehigh’s partnership with the UN began in 2004 when Lehigh became the sixth university in the world to gain Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) status with the United Nations (UN). This designation gives the university rare access to the world’s largest intergovernmental organization.
Ambassador Skoog’s three-hour visit also included a Greening of the UN Missions certificate ceremony from the Office of Sustainability and a luncheon with students and staff.
He also offered to help enable more EU member states to undertake the Greening of the UN Missions review.
