Pronunciation lessons for students of the intermediate-high or advanced levels interested in enhancing their English language skills for academic, professional, and interpersonal purposes. Open to students, faculty, staff, TAs and Lehigh spouses.
Learning Together: Cultivating Collaboration in Multicultural Classrooms

Collaboration helps students share ideas and learn from each other. It also brings challenges such as intercultural communication styles, time management issues, and personality clashes. This workshop will provide strategies to help students navigate these situations, build awareness of intercultural communication, work more effectively as a team, and produce better group projects.
3-Minute-Thesis: Presentation Skills for International TAs
Thurs. Jan. 30, 2:00-3:00pm via Zoom
This interactive workshop will demonstrate a unique presentation genre, called Three-Minute-Thesis, in which presenters explain complex concepts in three minutes or less using simple language, clear examples, and effective nonverbal communication. Multilingual TAs will learn how to apply this approach to enhance their language and presentation skills.

Giving Effective Oral Presentations

This workshop addresses how you can plan and deliver an engaging oral presentation in person and on Zoom. The workshop particularly uses the analogy of a “bus tour guide” to help you get your audience “on the bus” in the beginning, interested “during the ride,” and safely “off the bus with a souvenir.”

Introducing Communicative Roles of International TAs

Classroom cultural expectations on the part of students can differ from country to country. As a potential international teaching assistant (ITA), you may be asking some important questions. What do undergraduate students expect from me as an ITA from another country? What challenges might I face? And, how do I help students learn more actively? These are all questions that will be addressed from a cultural and linguistic perspective.

Overview of the TOPSS

This workshop will provide a broad overview of the TOPSS test for teaching assistants and Lehigh’s Oral Proficiency Interview. Time allowing, attendees can practice and receive feedback. This is a hybrid workshop, so participants may attend either in-person or virtually.
