Alberto Mata Rodríguez

Alberto Mata Rodríguez is a finance attorney – qualify to practice in Spain and in the State of New York (U.S.) –, Partner in Spain of the international law firm CMS where he advises on acquisition and leverage finance transactions; corporate financings; project finance (energy and infrastructure); and real estate finance. Before joining CMS, Alberto was the Head of Legal Department in Spain and Portugal of Deutsche Pfandbriefbank AG. He previously worked as an associate of the Spanish law firm Gómez-Acebo & Pombo Abogados.

He has also worked in Washington DC as an extern of the Financial and Fiscal Law Unit of the International Monetary Fund (IMF); collaborated continuously from 2014 with the World Bank as a contributor of the Doing Business Report (now Be Ready Report); and he is member of the Advisory Board of the SPPI Council of the International Bar Association. 

Mr. Mata Rodríguez has a Bachelor’s degree in Law (J.D. equivalent) and a B.B.A., both, from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid; a LL.M. in Securities & Financial Regulation from Georgetown University Law Center, where he was a member of Georgetown University’s Committee on Investments and Social Responsibility and he is a proud alumnus of the Iacocca Institute Global Village Program.

Mr. Mata Rodríguez has received different awards, such as the IBA Outstanding Young Lawyer of the Year in Recognition of William Reece Jr. Award (2013) and Universidad Carlos III Excellence Award for Alumni (2014). Also, he has been included by Legal 500 in the GC Power List Spain (2018), – which highlights the most influential senior in-house counsels in the Spanish legal market – and was selected by Choiseul Institute as one of the top fifty Economic Leaders for Tomorrow in Spain for years 2018 and 2019.

In addition, he currently serves as Secretary of the Board of Trustees of UNICEF Madrid Committee (Junta Directiva de Madrid); Vice-President of the Board of Trustees (Patronato) of Fundación HogarSí; member of the Board of Directors of PRIMERO H SOCIAL REIT; and member of the Board of Trustees of the International Institute Madrid. He also teaches at IE Law School; Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and EOI – Escuela de Organización Industrial.
