Indian student Akanksha Gavade ‘26 shares how Lehigh University’s interdisciplinary programs, global opportunities, and supportive community have shaped her academic journey.

Akanksha Gavade ‘26 first learned about Lehigh University from her neighbor in India after telling him about her interest in engineering.

“The more I read about it, the more I learned about it,” said Gavade, who is majoring in Industrial & Systems Engineering and Finance. “I fell in love with a lot of things that they offered, and I could see myself aligned with a lot of values and opportunities and the mission of different programs that they do.”

Gavade shared her inspiring journey of academic and personal growth in a new video. Since arriving at Lehigh, Gavade has immersed herself in hands-on learning experiences, securing a paid research assistant position as an underclassman and engaging with influential alumni for career guidance.

Her time at Lehigh has also opened doors to global opportunities, including a research trip to Kazakhstan that was supported by the university. She also highlights the welcoming and supportive community at Lehigh that has helped her thrive.
