Module 2: Professional Practice & Skill Building

About This Module

Professional Practice & Experiential Learning helps you gain meaningful professional experience while you are at Lehigh, and learn how to make that experience count for your career. By using the resources in this module, you will connect what you learn in the classroom to real-world work through internships, projects, research, labs, and other applied opportunities.

Structured experiential learning is one of the most effective ways to build employability. This module focuses on helping you reflect on your experiences, work with supervisors and mentors, and document your growth so that hands-on learning becomes clear professional evidence for future employers.

By completing this module, you will be able to:

  1. Identify appropriate on- and off-campus opportunities to gain professional experience while at Lehigh in ways that align with the terms of your F-1 visa status, including internships, research, projects, and other approved experiential learning options.
  2. Create a Professional Impact Narrative that links theories, methods, or technical skills from your major to how you helped solve a real-world problem through an internship, project, lab, or applied experience.
  3. Design a structured professional development plan that identifies the industry skills you want to build through experiential learning and outlines how you will document and reflect on those skills for résumés, interviews, and LinkedIn.

Together, these skills help you turn experience gained at Lehigh into clear, employer-ready proof of your professional growth.
