Five Lehigh faculty members will soon have the chance to serve as U.N. Faculty Fellows, connecting their research and teaching to the global Sustainable Development Goals.
The Office of International Affairs (OIA) is pleased to announce the launch of the Lehigh University/United Nations (LU/UN) Faculty Fellows Program, the first major initiative following Lehigh’s recent achievement of ECOSOC non-governmental organization status at the United Nations.
Through a competitive process, five faculty members will be selected to serve as Faculty Fellows, holding full U.N. NGO badges from September 2025 through December 2026. Fellows will engage directly with U.N. officials, diplomats, NGOs, and global thought leaders at United Nations headquarters in New York City.
Any Lehigh faculty whose teaching or research aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is eligible for this program. Applications must be submitted before September 15.
Application requirements include:
- Submit a one-page proposal outlining how your current research and/or teaching aligns with the SDGs and how U.N. access will expand your work
- Include in the proposal which deliverables you seek to achieve
- Provide your CV or resume
- Submit proposals to wdh3@lehigh.edu before September 15
Selected Fellows will receive an orientation at U.N. headquarters, monthly meetings with the LU/UN Partnership Director, and support from LU/UN Partnership interns. Very limited funding is available; additional support may need to be self-sourced by Faculty Fellows.
This is an exciting initiative stemming from Lehigh having obtained Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) NGO status, which places the university at the same level of stature as Greenpeace, Doctors Without Borders, and the Red Cross at the United Nations.
"We look forward to your applications for this unique opportunity to represent Lehigh University at the United Nations," said Bill Hunter, Director of Fellowship Advising and U.N. Programs at Lehigh.
