Statement on Orlando

June 14, 2016

Two days after the news from Orlando, our hearts are filled with sadness. Forty-nine victims are dead and 53 more wounded. In the wake of this attack, we want to reiterate that we stand for peace, for love, for inclusion. We stand with our LGBTQ+ community. And we stand with our Muslim friends. Hatred has no place here.

As a university, we have an important role in preventing tragedies like this in the future. It is the Office of International Affairs’ mission to create experiences in which diverse communities learn to understand each other, to accept each other, and to work together.

If you are on campus today, the Pride Center (UC 212) is hosting an open space for grief, community, and conversation, 12:00 p.m.-1:30 p.m. Wherever you are, join us in living Lehigh’s values of diversity and inclusion. Together, we can be the change.

On behalf of the staff of the Office of International Affairs,

Cheryl Matherly
